Students are pretending to be immigrants immigrating to America. They chose a country of their heritage (3 Norwegian, 2 German, 1 Scottish, 1 Thai, 1 Philipino, 1 Finnish). They needed to pack their "trunks", which they will be taking with them through their Ellis Island inspections tomorrow.
Students used dice inside of dice to come up with number sentences that had both addition/subtraction and multiplication in them. We finished reading the book, The Twits, by Mr. Roald Dahl. Then the students used the green screen app on the iPads to make commercials about the book. We went to the public library with our 1st and pre-K prayer buddies.
We viewed the quilt show (saw Holly H.'s quilt!), voted on our favorite quilt, then chose exciting books to read with each other. A.H. was absent last week during the living wax museum, so he gave his William Wallace presentation today to the 1st-5th grades ....... and he did amazing! Students used Nerf guns to learn about coordinate planes today. They tried to shoot their dart closest to the coordinate plane's origin. The whole class plotted each dart's ordered pair.
"Kindness is making someone smile, if only for a moment."
We painted bird houses today for the residents of the Care Center. They will be hung in the trees at the Care Center for the residents to enjoy. A HUGE thank you to Holly H. for purchasing/donating the materials, donating her time, and leading this project! We concluded our March Madness "Bravest Historical Person" tournament today.
